Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the college is a School Evaluation Report from March 2025. ERO found leaders were making good progress on students’ emotional and physical safety, with changes to leadership roles across the school and hostel and a full-time safeguarding officer, and students described the school as more settled and inclusive.
Most students make good progress, a large majority gain NCEA at Levels 1, 2 and 3 and most leave with at least Level 2, though fewer than half gain University Entrance.
Attendance and chronic absence are improving, but fewer than half of students attend regularly, and lifting this remains a priority. ERO’s next steps are to embed the child safety improvement plan, review leadership roles across the school and hostel, check how well programmes are working and for whom, and reflect students’ language, culture and identity more fully.
ERO also recommended that the Ministry of Education keep supporting the college to sustain its progress on student safety and wellbeing.
