Pukekohe and the Franklin district sit between two fishing-rich coastlines, the black-sand surf beaches of the west coast and the tidal estuaries of the Manukau Harbour. Surfcasting at Karioitahi Beach targets kahawai and snapper off the iron-sand shore. Further south, Bottle Top Bay near Waiuku offers sheltered harbour fishing with access to the Manukau edge. Both spots are within 30–40 minutes of Pukekohe.
