What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from August 2025. ERO found teaching that lifts progress in reading, writing and maths, a structured approach to literacy and maths across the school, and students who are well supported, with almost all reporting a strong sense of belonging and feeling safe.

Teachers and leaders identify students most at risk of not achieving and support them well, and the school has made significant gains for this group since its previous review.

Most students meet or exceed the expected curriculum level in reading and maths, and a large majority do so in writing. Maths results are equitable across groups of learners, but reading and writing results are not yet.

A large majority of students attend regularly, and the school is approaching the government’s regular attendance target with a suitable plan, although chronic absence is not yet falling.

ERO found the school has extended progress for students already at or above expected levels only to some extent. Its priorities are to keep achievement high while stretching students and making outcomes more equitable for particular groups, to update assessment and planning for new curriculum requirements, and to strengthen its attendance strategies.

Enrolling

Harrisville School has an enrolment scheme, so students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and the school office can confirm whether an address is in zone.

Out-of-zone places are offered by ballot, and the school advertises before each ballot which year levels have spaces for the following year. Every child living outside the zone goes through the ballot, including younger siblings of students who were accepted by ballot.

Families are invited to visit the school before enrolling, and enrolment packs are available from the school office. Enrolling a child well before they turn five lets the school arrange visits before they start.
