What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from February 2023. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well the school uses data to shape teaching and speed up students’ progress.

ERO pointed to well-established systems that support a collaborative culture, leadership whose decisions reflect whanaungatanga, tiakitanga and manaakitanga, valued partnerships with whānau, iwi and hapū, and a board that represents its community in setting the school’s direction.

Next, the school plans to refine how it uses data to plan and improve teaching programmes, and to lift teachers’ practice through relevant professional learning and its professional growth cycle.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

The scheme gives first priority to applicants for the school’s approved bilingual and learning support programmes, and says the board announces out-of-zone places, how to apply and any ballot date by notice in a local newspaper each year.

New entrants start in cohorts at the start of a term or partway through it, and need a birth certificate or passport and proof of address before they begin.
