What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from January 2025. ERO noted that the school’s technology unit serves all Year 7 and 8 students in the Waiuku area. It found the school is working to improve outcomes, as less than half of learners were at the expected level in reading, writing and maths, and lifting Māori learners’ achievement remains a focus, with targeted support in place.

Most students attend regularly, but the school had not yet met the Ministry’s attendance target. On the positive side, ERO pointed to school values and wellbeing built into daily life, respectful classrooms with clear routines, structured literacy that is starting to lift progress, a curriculum grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the school’s partnership with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua as mana whenua, and work with community groups that widens students’ learning.

The agreed next steps are to use data, including information from students’ previous schools, to identify and teach the students who need extra support, to make assessment more consistent through moderation, to embed structured literacy further, and to target attendance efforts at the students who are not attending regularly.
