What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from March 2023. ERO and the school agreed to look at how well targeted actions improve literacy for all students, with a particular focus on lifting boys’ achievement in reading and writing.

ERO pointed to leaders and experienced teachers who work together on improvement, thorough systems for tracking achievement over time, and strong relationships with families and the local community.

Looking ahead, the school’s priorities are to keep using strategies that work in literacy, including raising boys’ engagement and achievement, and to build shared evaluation skills so improvements last. ERO’s next public report will be a School Evaluation Report.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. The school’s enrolment page describes the zone boundaries, links to the online enrolment form and lists the documents needed, and families can book a school tour through the office.

Out-of-zone places are set by the board each year and offered in priority order, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The school publishes the number of places and the ballot date in the local community newspaper.
