These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.

What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from May 2025. ERO noted strong roll growth and found that most students learn in a supportive culture with good relationships with their peers, students with additional needs are well supported, and attendance is improving while chronic absence falls.

The school’s special character builds a strong sense of belonging, and collaborative leadership, professional learning and feedback from families all feed into planning.

Achievement is the main area to lift: a small majority of students in Years 1 to 10 reach expectations in reading, writing and maths, with significant gaps for Māori and Pacific students in literacy and for Māori students in maths.

ERO’s next steps are more consistent and reliable assessment, better use of progress data to plan teaching, and teaching strategies that close the gaps for Māori and Pacific students and lift girls’ results in maths.

Enrolling

As a state-integrated Christian school, KingsGate gives preference of enrolment to families who share the faith set out in its Statement of Faith, sign a declaration and have their church involvement confirmed by a pastor or church elder. Other students can enrol only if places remain after preference applicants, within a limit set by the school’s integration agreement.

Families apply online through the school’s enrolment page, which also covers current availability of places and cohort entry for new entrants. The school encourages families to pre-enrol in the year a child turns four.
