MELAA: Middle Eastern, Latin American and African.
Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from October 2023.
ERO described leadership of learning as reflective, open to change and focused on steady improvement. It found thorough systems for spotting and supporting the progress of students with additional needs, and learning programmes that are adapted to each child and inclusive.
The school and ERO agreed to look at how well its actions are lifting writing, with a particular focus on fairer results for boys.
Attendance is also a priority: the school plans targeted steps to raise attendance and speed up progress. Its other next steps are helping students take more ownership of their learning and building stronger evaluation to guide planning and teaching.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and families are asked for proof of address. Out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The school’s site says it only takes out-of-zone enrolments while a ballot is open, and its enrolment page shows whether one is.
The zone page sets out the ballot priority order, with siblings of current students ahead of other applicants. New entrants complete a new entrant survey as well as the enrolment form, while new families with children in Years 2 to 8 only need the enrolment form.
