What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the college is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from November 2023. ERO and the college agreed to evaluate how well a culturally responsive curriculum, teaching and pastoral care help all students engage and achieve, with a focus on fairer outcomes for Māori students.

ERO noted school values developed together with Ngāti Te Ata, strong cultural practice in parts of the school that others can learn from, and deliberate gathering of the views of whānau, hapū and iwi to shape teaching for Māori students.

For its next steps, the college is building a shared approach to mana-enhancing pastoral care across the school and continuing to develop a curriculum that reflects its values and te ao Māori. It also plans to support teachers to adapt their teaching to each student’s needs and interests, and to keep widening the pathways open to students.
