What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from August 2024. ERO found outcomes in reading and maths are becoming more equitable and are improving for most learners, with a majority at the expected curriculum level in both and most making accelerated progress.

About half of learners were at the expected level in writing, where structured literacy teaching is starting to lift results, and there was disparity for Māori learners in reading and maths, with programmes in place to address it.

Students feel they belong and talk confidently about their learning, the school meets the national attendance target, and ERO pointed to leadership focused on improvement, a culture of trust, and a board that uses evidence to make decisions.

The agreed next steps are to keep a close watch on targets for learners at risk of not achieving and on parity for Māori learners in literacy and maths, to keep building teachers’ skills in writing, to use te reo and tikanga Māori more in everyday practice, and to give students a stronger voice in shaping the school’s culture.
