What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from December 2023.
ERO described a semi-rural school in the Bombay Hills that takes an active part in its local Kāhui Ako. It found leadership of learning that sets up good conditions for students to succeed, teaching programmes with high levels of engagement and achievement, and leaders and the board working together to put continuous improvement and fair opportunities to learn first.
ERO and the school are evaluating how well deliberate actions are raising achievement, with a focus on writing and maths for particular groups of learners. The school’s priorities are to make its approach to teaching more consistent and sustainable, to follow through on targeted actions for progress and equity in writing and maths, and to build its capability in evaluation.

Enrolling
Bombay School has an enrolment scheme, so students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places, when the school has them, are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.
Priority goes first to siblings of current students, then siblings of former students, children of former students, and children of board members or staff. The school publishes its out-of-zone places and application deadlines on its website, and its enrolment scheme says it does not take international fee-paying students.
To start, families contact the school office, which confirms whether an address is in zone and what is needed, such as proof of identity and address and immunisation information. The school asks families to get in touch early so it can plan visits, class placement and a settled start.
