What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from May 2024. ERO and the school agreed to look at how well achievement data is used to shape teaching and lift engagement, progress and achievement.

ERO pointed to a positive school climate with students keen to learn, and to partnerships with whānau and the community. In the rumaki and bilingual setting, ERO found tamariki confidently engaged in a curriculum grounded in te ao Māori, making accelerated progress in literacy and numeracy, and supported by a strong base of tikanga and mātauranga Māori.

The school’s priorities are for leaders to coordinate new systems for tracking achievement, for staff to learn how to collect and analyse that data, and for teachers to track target students in reading, writing and maths.

For the rumaki, ERO’s priorities are working with mana whenua to lead a local curriculum, building senior leaders’ understanding of rumaki assessment, building trust between senior leaders and rumaki leaders, and strengthening Māori-medium pathways.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol in the English pathway. The school’s enrolment page says families do not need to live in the zone to enrol in the te reo Māori pathway, and it lists the documents to bring to the school office for each pathway.

For the English pathway, out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.
