What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from August 2023. ERO noted that the roll keeps growing with new housing in the township and that the community is becoming more multicultural.

ERO and the school agreed to look at how well its programmes lift progress in writing, especially for boys and Māori learners, with better regular attendance as an ongoing goal.

ERO pointed to programmes shaped around students’ needs, interests and cultures, professional learning that builds the skills of teachers and learning assistants, and a team culture that works together on improvement.

Looking ahead, the school’s priorities are targeted action to lift progress and fairer results in writing for every student, helping students build the skills to lead their own learning, and continued professional learning matched to the different needs of students and staff. ERO’s next public report will be a School Evaluation Report.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. The school’s enrolment page sets out the steps: check the zone, fill in the pre-enrolment form, send the required documents, then come in for a pre-enrolment visit and tour.

Any out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme in priority order, starting with siblings of current students, and by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The enrolment page says whether the school is taking out-of-zone enrolments at the time.
