What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the kura is a Ngā Kitenga Arotake Report from March 2025. ERO found students are cared for as taonga, secure in their identity as Tainui and as descendants of the Kīngitanga, and confident taking speaking and calling roles for their kura.

Te reo Māori is heard and used throughout the kura, students’ speaking, reading and writing in te reo are improving, and more whānau are learning the language each year. A new board and tumuaki have strengthened the kura culture and relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi, and attendance has improved with whānau help.

ERO also raised clear concerns. Most students are underachieving in te reo matatini and pāngarau, and their progress needs to speed up.

The tumuaki’s annual appraisal and the kaiako professional growth cycles had not been completed, and the wider whānau would benefit from deeper understanding of Te Aho Matua. ERO recommended the whānau work with Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori to address these next steps.
