What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from October 2025. ERO found students engaged in settled classrooms with positive relationships with their teachers, well planned and structured lessons, structured literacy firmly in place, good support for learners with complex needs, and parents who are involved in the school. It also found that a small majority of learners meet the expected curriculum level in reading and maths and less than half do in writing, that results are not yet equitable across groups, and that less than half of learners attend school regularly, behind the government’s target, although attendance is improving.

ERO said the school needs to make sure its learning environment is physically and emotionally safe, and it found gaps in the safety checking and police vetting of staff, which the board has since acted on.

ERO’s report notes that a commissioner has since replaced the school board. The key priorities are to lift regular attendance, speed up progress in reading, writing and maths for students below the expected level, report progress and achievement more accurately to guide teaching and the board, strengthen te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori across the curriculum, and build learning partnerships with whānau, hapū and iwi.
